Contact stations operating from different mountainous regions of Russia which are categorized on their website. The stations you contact must have indicated their RMA number on their QSL. GCR lists are accepted, but your list must include the RMA number from the QSL. Apply to RU3GN.

Grade 3 - 5 QSOs with expeditions or stationary stations listed in the program.
Grade 2 - 10 QSOs in at least 2 different listed mountain regions.

Omskaya Gubernia Award

Gubernia was a province in Czarist Russia. The award consists of three different awards (Classes I, II and III) and HONOR ROLL plaque. The Brotherhood of the Slavs Diploma        (Vostochnye slavyane)

The diploma is established in honour of friendship of the radio amateurs of three areas Chernigov (UR), Gomel (EW) and Bryansk (UA). Contact 5 stations of Bryanskaya Oblast, 5 stations of Chernigovskaya Oblast and 5 stations of Gomelskaya Oblast. One contact with station of Bransk city, Chernigov city and Gomel city is mandatory. Hero Cities Award

During WWII (The Great Patriotic War), certain cities were designated as "Hero Cities" honoring their special efforts. Contact stations located in hero cities of the former USSR: Moscow, Leningrad (now St-Petersburg), Minsk, Kiev, Volgograd, Kerch, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, Odessa, Smolensk, Sevastopol, Tula, and Brest.

                                                                                                                            The Smolensk Fortress Wall - 400 Anniversary Award

Issued to any amateur radio operator or swl for QSO's/SWL's with stations of the Smolensk oblast (R3L*, RA3-RZ3L*, U3L*, UA3L*, UE3L*) on or after 1 January 1996 using all bands and modes, including WARC. 

Requirements: 
EU stations must submit the proof of having contacted with 5 Smolensk oblast using any bands, or 1 on 1,8 Mhz band. Radio amateurs who work only CW, VHF or RTTY must submit the proof of having contacted with 1 radio station only of the Smolensk oblast. 
DX stations must submit the proof of having contacted with 1 radio station of the Smolensk oblast.

QSO/SWL with U3LA and U3LI - The World War II veterans and special event stations with prefix RP3L**, UE3L**, R200MIG and RK1G - will count for 3 QSOs/SWL.

Award fee is 5€ or 6 IRC.

200 Years of Admiral Nakhimov

Contact stations located in the Smolenskaya oblast (the birthplace of the Admiral), Arkhangelsk, St-Petersburg, Kronstadt, and Sevastopol (places of navy service). The number of QSO's with Smolenskaya oblast must be no less 50% of total QSO's. All bands and modes OK. Every station counts only once. QSO's on and after Jan 1 2002.

In honor of the 310^th anniversary of the founding of the city of Taganrog by Czar Peter I, the Taganrog DXPedition club introduces a program in Peter`s honour and to celebrate this anniversary of Taganrog as well. Fee for certificates is $US6, fee for medals/plaques is $25 or equivalent in IRCs. (Verify costs before applying, translation problems.) The program is available for all amateurs and SWLs.                     Light House of Taganrog LHT – U E 6 L H T

1.The diploma " L H T " is issued to all station who make QSOs with amateur stations working from radio-beacon or radio-beacon places ( a Light House is not radio-beacon ) all over the world + 2 QSO from UE6LHT. Same station may be contacted for credit as long as different operators made the contacts or QSOs were on different bands. If you do not have enough contacts to qualify, you may substitute QSOs with members of TDXEC. 
2. The " LHT – S " (super) class is available with 15 amateur radio stations from all over the world + 3 QSO from UE6LHT. Other rules same as "LHT" above of the TDXEC club. 
3. The "LHT – E " (excellence) medal is awarded for QSOs with 21 amateur radio stations of the world + 5 QSO from UE6LHT. The medal has diameter 56 mm. with sailboat of 17 th century.

In 2008, you must earn 310 points , this is the number of years from the founding of the city of Taganrog in 1698. In 2009 one must get 311 points and etc. All points may have been earned by QSOs made since 1989.

1. Members UA6MM , UA6LIC, RA6LF , RV6LI J , UA6LIG , UA6LJU … / UF6O , and UE6LHT = 50 points.
2. All other members of the club = 25 points each. At least 1 QSL from club member needed.

Earn 160 points by making contacts from the following list:
a. special call UE3IAT = 100.
b. Contact any member of the club on December 19 of any year = 50.

d. contact any station located in Moscow, Kazan, Zhukovsky, Novosibirsk, Voronezh, N.Novgorod, Samara, Koubinka = 15 points

g. Any special or memorial station one from the following airports: Zhukovsky, Prilouky, Koubinka, Engels = double points for QSO's with those QTH's.

            The TU-16 Badger Award

TU-16 is one of the best long-haul bombers in the world. 1,511 of these were produced from 1953 to 1964. The TU-16 was in use by the Soviet Air Force right up to the early 90s. TU-16 was exported to Egypt, Iraq, and Indonesia and also was reproduced in China (the CPR).  The NATO designation was "Badger".

Earn a total of 16 points from by contacts from the following table:
a. special call UE3IAT (during days of activity) = 10 points
b. RK3IXB (club station) = 6 points
c. any Member of the A.N. Tupolev Radioclub = 2 points
d. SWL RPRT/QSO with any Egypt, Iraq, Indonesian station = 3 points
e. SWL RPRT/QSO with China = 4 points
f. Any station ../AM while airborne = 6 points
g. if you already have the A.N.Tupolev Award, this counts for 4 points.

        A.N.Tupolev Award

In 2005, you must earn 117 points - the number of years since Tupolev's year of birth. Every following year, one point is required. (2006 = 118, 2007 = 119 etc.)

UA4IF Memorial Award

This award was developed to recognize the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Kamalagin UA4IF. He was a HAM radio veteran since 1929; a famous contester, DXer and radio expert.

Sponsored by the Samara Regional Council of Soyuz Radiolyubitelei Rossii (SRR). Available to any amateur or SWL for earning 100 points from the following table:

This permanent diploma is sponsored by the Lipetsk regional branch of SRR in honor of the 110th anniversary of the birth of the famous native of City of Lipetsk, who participated in the operation to rescue passengers of the steamship "Chelyuskin", a participant of the first air strikes of Soviet aircraft against Berlin in August, 1941, and one of the first Heroes of Soviet Union (the Gold Star N6), the polar pilot General-Major Vodopyanov M.V. (1899 - 1980).

Earn 100 points for contacts with Volgograd radio amateurs during any one year period .

Point values:
a. Every Volvograd QSO = 1 point.
b. Contacts with Feofanovs brothers (U4QX, U4LD, UA4AA, UA4AAA, U4AA) and memorial station UE4ABF (Brothers Feofanovs) = 10 points regardless of the date of contact.
c. Any Veteran of World War II (all countries) = 5 points.
d. Factory workers or rear guard or people's guards = 3 points.

SLAVS Award

The SLAVS award is issued in honor of the creators of Slavic alphabet Cyrill and Methody. In the year 2007 make 1144 QSOs with Slavonic radioamateurs in any country. In 2008, increase by one to 1145 etc. Every QSO=1 point. Special event and memorial stations, which are devoted to the Slav's culture and alphabet, irrespective of the date = 100 points. On May 24 (Day of Slav's alphabet) points for QSOs are doubled.

STALINGRAD-43

The award is issued in memory of the Victory in Stalingrad on February 2 1943. Earn 200 points (day of the battle) regardless of the date for contacts with Volgograd radioamateurs, honorary members of Volgograd radiosports Federation, veterans of WWII in CIS.

Point Values:
a. QSO with memorial radiostation = 10 points,
b. QSO with honorary member of Volgograd radiosports Federation or its club = 10 points,
c. QSO with veteran of WWII in CIS = 5 points,

BATTLE OF STALINGRAD

The award is issued in memory of the Victory in Stalingrad on February 2 1943.

VORONEZH – CRADLE OF RUSSIAN NAVY

In 1695–1696, Tsar Peter the Great built a dockyard in Voronezh, which led to probably the first Naval fleet ever built in Russia. This award is sponsored by the SRR Branch in Voronezhskaya oblast.

To obtain the diploma you may complete one of the following requirements:
a. ONE QSO with U3OA (veteran of WWII) on any band or

World Castles Award Program

This award has been instituted by the founders of the "Castles On The Air-Russia" (COTA-Russia) program, and by participation of national fortress awards programs of Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Switzerland, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia and Belarus. It’s purpose is to provide a new program to recognize the activation and working of fortresses, castles, forts from all over the world.

Issued to any licensed radio-amateur or SWL who submits proof of radio contact with 100, 200, 300, 500, 700, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 fortresses from not less than 3 countries whichparticipate of the program. The Highest level award "HONOUR ROLL" is issued for confirmed QSOs with 3000 fortresses and a special prize - "TROPHY" for contact with 5000 fortresses.

Contacts with objects recognized by any of the national fortress programs are valid: BCA, CASHOTA, CCA, COTA-DL, COTA-NL COTA-RU, DFCF, DCI, DCS, Ukraine Castles, Zamki w Polsce, SCA, CPBA. Each object may only be worked one time. QSO/SWL are valid since January 1st. 1995 on any bands (including WARC) by any modes.

Application for diploma is based on the received QSL cards according to the application form. GCR OK. The award manager can require QSL for check. Endorsements available for different modes. World Castles Activator Award (WCAA)

This certificate honors the stations who activate historical and memorial places including castles, fortresses, forts, etc. Activators are required to make no less than 50 QSOs from each of 5 various objects which qualify for theWCA. For those operators who live 1 km. From valid castles, fortresses, forts etc., their requirement is to make at least 1000 QSOs. QSOs are valid since January 1st. 1995 using any bands or modes.

The certificate is free of charge. There are two ways to obtain it:
     1) in electronic form - JPG file completely ready for printing in A4 format (297x240) will send by e-mail;
     2) in paper form by post (you are required to pay the postage).

The application for Award certificate "World Castles Activator Award - WCAA" is made in free-form but you must specify the name of the objects, the number assigned to the objects rs by a national award program or WCA-number, total number of QSOs and dates when they were made.

World Fauna Flora Award Series

General Requirements: This is a program requiring contacts (SWL OK) with stations operating from National Parks and Nature Reserves worldwide on or after 1 July 2008. The parks and preserves must have been listed in their official listing of recognized locations at the time your QSO was made. The sponsor’s website listed below allows you to download a XLS listing for use on your own computer. Each contact must be with a different park or reserve regardless of whether the contact is made by different modes or on different bands. All contacts must have been made from the same DXCC country. All bands OK.

You may apply by e-mail or by regular mail. Send a list containing all QSO data plus the name and official WFF check number (two letter country code and 2 or 3 digits representing the sequence number of the park, such as FF-01.). The actual card, or a photo copy showing the front and back sides must be submitted unless the contact is made with a station or expedition which has provided the sponsor with a copy of their electronic logs, in which case you should note this in your application to save mailing costs.

A separate set of rules applies to the activators of parks and reserves. See their website for details. Look for expedition activity on 14244 and 14044. A special activity week is planned during the first week in July of each year. Sponsor reserves the right to examine any card.

It is recommended that you visit the sponsors website due to the length and complexity of the program.  This is a developing program, and the sponsor is still looking for data from many countries regarding parks and preserves which will qualify under their rules.

General rules : Contact stations of the Kaluzhskaya Oblast. In 2000, you need 104 points, in 2001, 105 points and one point for each additional year. Each contact with individual station = 1 point. Each contact with club station, memorial station or any station from the Zhukovskiy Rayon of the Kaluzhskaya Oblast = 5 points. If the rules of diploma to fulfil only on 1.8 MHz these point values are doubled. For competitors outside Europe these point values are doubled. On January 1st 1992, and after a period of about 75 years, the USSR ceased to exist. The Commonwealth of Independant States (CIS) which is the successor that replaced the USSR is a loose confederation of Russia, the Ukraine, Belarus and a few, but not all of the previous countries.

For several years, starting in the late 1980's, the effects of Glasnost and Perestroika helped to add several hundred awards to this book. Judging from the mail I receive, it's clear that our Russian friends have always enjoyed awards hunting.

Recent political upheaval is, unfortunately, taking a serious social and economic toll on the average ham/SWL as the move to a market based economy has disrupted many aspects of Russian life. 

One of the bad side effects of these historic events is a temporary (we hope) disruption of mail services. Not all mail that enters the country is delivered. Especially if it comes from overseas and looks as if it might contain valuables (currency / IRCs).

The Russians know it's happening. They've written warnings about this. They've complained to the postal officials openly.

What do we do about these interesting and colorful awards? Some tips, not necessarily in the order of precedence:

1. Write or use e-mail in advance. Ask if the award is still being offered and if the sponsor has made special arrangements with a friend in a "safer" country to receive the fees.
2. Get a supply of the European size letter envelope. Foreign non-standard envelopes are too prominent.
3. Don't use colorful stamps - this may attract the wrong kind of attention.
4. Use Registered Mail - yes, I know it's expensive.
5. Wrap IRCs or currency in carbon paper cut to the exact size of the letter.
6. Postpone applications until the situation improves.

I guess #6 is my last in order of preference. I continue to receive mail from award sources and correspondents in the CIS and they are thrilled at the recent events. They aren't giving in to a few dishonest mail pilferers. We shouldn't either.
