 --- Japan Amateur Radio League (JARL) Series ---

General Requirements: Available to both amateurs and SWL's.  GCR list is accepted. Form of list will be specified, when required, in the rules of each award. If GCR not available, you must submit all the cards required plus postage for return to you.  Fee of 12 IRCs per award. An additional 2 IRCs will be charged for air mail delivery regardless of the number of awards claimed. Stickers for AJA and WASA will be 6 IRcs regardless of the number of stickers issued per applications.  Stickeres for JCC and JCG will be 6 IRCs per application.

Applicants may request up to three of the following endorsements:

1. Specific band (only contacts made in same band)   (3.8 MHz is included in 3.5 MHz)
2. Modes - (only contacts made in the same mode)   (CW, AM, SSB, FM, SSTV, RTTY, ATV, FAX)
3. Satellite - (only contacts made through amateur radio
4. QRP - (only contacts made through transmitters with final input of 5W or less.
5. QRPp - only contacts made through transmitters with final input of 0.5 watts or less. 

Only contacts/receptions made on and after 29 July 1952 are acceptable.

Only land station QSO's are acceptable. MM and Aero Moblile are acceptable for 50MHz-100, 144MHz-100, 435MHz-100, 1200MHz-10, 50 100, 2400MHz-10, 50, 100 and VU-1000 awards.

Contacts with Far East Military Auxiliary stations in Japan are NOT acceptable.

All contacts must be made on land within the same call area, or if no call area exists, within the same country.

Contact (or hear) and receive a card from a station in each of the 47 prefectures of Japan. A list of QSL cards should be arranged in order of WAJA reference number, however names of prefecture may be omitted.

Japan Century Cities (JCC) (SWL-JCC)

Contact (or hear) and receive a card from a station located in each of at least 100 different cities of Japan. JCC-200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700  will be issued as separate awards. The list of cards should be arranged in order of JCC reference number, however the names of the city may be omitted.  An additional sticker will be issued at every 50 contacts such as: 150, 250, 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 cities.

Japan Century Guns (JCG) (SWL-JCG)

As above for the rules of JCC, but "cities" replaced by "guns", however, only the separate and awards and stickers go to 550 different guns.

What is a GUN? Japan has, as administrative districts 47 prefectures, which are divided into cities, towns and villages. "Gun", not being an administrative district, is a regional congregation of towns and villages.

VHF Awards

The following awards are also available. They may be claimed by having contacted (heard) and received a QSL card from each of the different stations on the frequency band listed:

50MHz-100, 144MHz-100, 430MHz-100

1200MHz-10, 50, 100, 200, 300, etc.

2400MHz-10, 50, 100, 200, 300, etc.

5600MHz-10, 50, 100, 200, 300, etc.

VU-1000 (SWL-VU-1000)

Contact (hear) and receive a QSL from each of at least 1000 different stations on the 50MHz, 144MHz and/or 435MHz. For higher levels, VU-2000, VU-3000, etc. will be issued. A list of QSL cards should be arranged in alphabetical order of prefix, followed by suffix. Only contacts made on and after 29 July 1977 are acceptable.

Worked All Cities Award (WACA) (HACA)

Contact (heard) and received a card from a station in each of all the cities of Japan that are in existence on the day when the final contact (reception) is made. The list of QSL cards should be arranged in order of JCC reference number, however names of cities may be omitted.

Worked All Guns Award (WAGA) (HAGA)

Same as WACA above, except "cities" is replaced by "guns".

Asian DX Award (ADXA) (SWL-ADXA)

Contact (heard) and received a QSL card from a station located in each of at least 30 Asian countries, including Japan. Cards should be arranged in order of the listing of the following list:

Asian DX Award Half (ADXA-Half) (SWL-ADXA-Half)

Contact (heard) and received a QSL card from a station located in at least of the 15 Asian countries listed above, including Japan. Listing of the cards should be in order of Asian Countries list.

Heard All Continents (HAC)

Hear and receive a QSL from an amateur station located in each of the 6 continents. The continental boundaries for IARU's WAC are standard, with a few exceptions in Asia which are shown in the Asian Countries list.

 

Amateur Satellite "Fuji" (SWL-A.R. "Fuji")

Contact 10 different stations through the Satellite "Fuji" (only contacts in CW or SSB mode). You must possess the cards.

Worked All Square Award

Contact at least 100 different Grid Square Locators in Japan (First 4 digits); sticker endorsements each additional 100 squares. Contacts after 1 July 1992. All contacts must be made from the same grid square in your country. Even if the square of the station which issued a QSL card is not shown clearly, a QSL card showing the longitude and latitude of the station from which its square can be calculated will be valid. In this case, these coordinates should be shown on the QSL card list. The location where your station operates should be within one square. of Same station may be counted on each band and square. No crossband except by satellite. Endorsement fee is 5 IRCs. Available in two classes: WASA-V-U-SHF (50 Mhz and above) or WASA-HF (28 Mhz and below). GCR list must include Grid square data. No endorsements for band/mode.

  10 MHz-100 Award

Available to all amateurs (SWLs) who submit a list of QSL cards that show two-way communications (contacts) with different 100 amateur stations on 10 MHz band. Contacts must be dated April 1, 2002 or later. Applicants must have all QSL cards concerned, but no GCR needed. A list of QSL cards should be indicated in alphabetical order by prefix followed by suffix. Contacts may be made from any location. The fee is 1,000 yen (8 IRCs or $US8 for non-JARL members.

18 MHz-100 Award

Available to all amateurs (SWLs) who submit a list of QSL cards that show two-way communications (contacts) with different 100 amateur stations on 18 MHz band. Contacts must be dated April 1, 2002 or later. Applicants must have all QSL cards concerned, but no GCR needed. A list of QSL cards should be indicated in alphabetical order by prefix followed by suffix. Contacts may be made from any location. The fee is 1,000 yen (8 IRCs or $US8) for non-JARL members.

24 MHz-100 Award

Available to all amateurs (SWLs) who submit a list of QSL cards that show two-way communications (contacts) with different 100 amateur stations on 24 MHz band. Contacts must be dated April 1, 2002 or later. Applicants must have all QSL cards concerned, but no GCR needed. A list of QSL cards should be indicated in alphabetical order by prefix followed by suffix. Contacts may be made from any location. The fee is 1,000 yen (8 IRCs or $US8) for non-JARL members.

 WARC-1000 Award

Available to all amateurs (SWLs) who submit a list of QSL cards that show two-way communications (contacts) with different 1000 amateur stations on one or more WARC bands (10MHz, 18MHz and 24MHz). Contacts must be dated April 1, 2002 or later. Applicants must have all QSL cards concerned, but no GCR needed. A list of QSL cards should be indicated in alphabetical order by prefix followed by suffix at every band. Contacts may be made from any location. If you contacted the same station on a different WARC band, it would be considered that you contacted different two stations. An additional sticker will be issued at every 1000 contacts. The fee is 1,000 yen (8 IRCs or $US8) for non-JARL members. Each additional sticker fee is 600 yen (5 IRCs or $US5) for non-JARL members.

JARL Award Master (JAM)

JARL recognizes amateur radio operators who have earned ten or more awards sponsored by the JARL, including short term awards which are expired.  The award is issued in 4 classes: Bronze - 10 awards, Silver - 25 awards, Gold - 50 awards and Platinum - 100 awards.  You may count the same award multiple times if you have earned endorsements for different bands or modes. Send a list which includes the name of the award, endorsement(s) if applicable, the serial number of issue and date issued by JARL.  The fee is 1000¥ or 5 IRC's for each class.  Applications will be accepted on or after October 1, 2004.

All Japan Award (AJA)

May be claimed for having contacted (heard) 1000 different cities, "Guns" (see JCG rule) and/or "Ku"* using at least 2 bands and more and having received 1000 cards from contacted stations.  Endorsement stickers are issued at the level of each additional 500 (below 3000) and each additional 250 (above 3000). 

* Ku means an administrative unit (= ward) in big cities of Japan. For example, Tokyo-23 wards and Yokohama are divided into several Ku's.  You can download the list of Japan's Ku's.  

Contact with big cities which are separated into several Ku's may be counted as Ku's points only.  You cannot count such contacts as cities points.  But, contacts with those big cities which have not been separated into Ku's should only be counted using the points for the city.  For example, Saitama-city (JCC number 1344) was separated into 9 Ku's on April 1, 2003.  Your contacts with Saitama-city on and after April 1, 2003 must be counted only using Ku's points.  However, contacts with Saitama-city before April 1, 2003 should be counted as Saitama-city.

Abashiri Club Series

General Requirements: GCR list and 12 IRCs for each award. Each of the awards below may be earned in 3 levels: Class A - spell the term out with YL stations plus one YL station in Abashiri City; Class B - spell out including AA1 to JA0 (10 districts) plus one station in Abashiri City; Class C - unconditional, but one station in Abashiri City. GENSEIKAEN-SYO Spell out "GENSEIKAEN" with the last letter of each station's callsign.

MIZUBASYO-SYO as above, spell out "MIZUBASYO".

SANGOSOU-SYO as above, spell out "SANGO GRASS".

Akita All Cities and Guns Award

Alphabet Sandwich Call Letter Award

Work stations where the first and third letters of their suffix are the same. (Example: JA1GAG, W6MVM, UA3KAK).

Class Bronze - make alphabet one case. - 26 QSO's.
Class Silver - make alphabet two times - 52 QSO's.
Class Gold - make alphabet three times - 78 QSO's.

Animal WAC

Contact 6 continents, each station must have a suffix which spells the name of an animal. Example: W1DOG LU2PIG VK3CAT UA9APE G5FOX ZS1OX, etc. The suffix "ZOO" is a wild card and may be used to substitute for any one missing suffix. 

Class A: all the same suffix such as DOG and all on one band or mode; 
Class B: One band and mode, 
Class C: One Mode.

Silver - use cards of JA7 call area including two from Aomori City.

Bihoro-Pass Award

Spell the term "BIHORO PASS" as follows for different levels:

Class AA - use the first letter of station prefixes.

Class A - use the last letter of station suffixes, completing AJD (JA1-0 areas) plus one Bihoro resident station.

Class B - use the last letter of station suffixes and one located in a town or village of Bihoro.

Bull Fight Award

Confirm contact with 9 JA stations spelling out the word "BULL FIGHT" with the first letter of their suffix.

Class C - Complete with any nine stations.

The Century - 0 (Zero) Award

Submit proof of having contacting 100 or more entities (ARRL DXCC list) which have the number 0 (Zero) in their prefix, such as UA0, W0, S50.  Contacts withy both NAGANO and NIIGATA prefectures of Japan must be included in the 100 entities such as JA0.  (Valid prefixes from these prefectures include JA0-JS0, 7J0-7N0 and 8J0-8N0.)  This means that at least 101 QSL cards are needed.  No special event station with 0's can be used.  Example: 8N2OOO.  Contacts on or after 1 January 2005.  All bands, including WARC from 160 to 6 meters may be used.  
     Endorsements available for each 25 additional entities over 100.  Send GCR list, certified by two amateurs who are DXCC holders in alphanumeric order (A to Z and 1 to 0) including the date/band/mode of each QSO.  Endorsement requests must be sent in the same manner with SASE or 2 IRCs.  Award fee is ¥1000 or 10 IRCs. Class C: Contact All Cities, Guns and Wards (Chiba City) in Chiba Prefecture plus another 100 stations in Chiba Prefecture
Class H: Contact 1000 stations inChiba prefecture.
Class I: Contact All Cities, Wards and Towns/Villages in Chiba Prefecture
Class B: Achieve Class I on 2 different bands.
Class A: Achieve Class I on 3 different bands.

For Class C and H, contacts should be composed of different stations. In case of Class I, B and A, you may use the same station for up to 5 QSO's on the same band.

Special rules for DX stations only:

Class CHI - 100 different Chiba prefecture stations.

Eniwa Suzuran Award

Sponsored by the Eniwa ARC for confirming contact with 12 stations to spell out the word "ENIWASUZURAN" using the last letter of their suffix.

Class A - use only YL's which must be in 3 different areas plus one station from Eniwa, either OM or YL. 
Class B - use stations in either different cities or in guns plus any station from Eniwa. 
Class C - make with any station and 1 Eniwa city station.
